Is my home perfect or productive?

It's a new year, and new year's resolutions are abundant. I'm always hoping this year will be better, smoother...somehow.  Cleaner, more organized house, well run homeschool schedule, chores working like clockwork etc...  But the more I stress about how clean and organized my house is, the more I seem to consider this verse:

Proverbs 14:4 (KJV) Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

In my house, there are a lot of children (compared to the average 1-2 child house), a lot of laundry, lots of books, lots of toys, and lots of cooking going on.  Generally, when the house is really clean, we are not doing anything, but most often waiting for company.  Looking well to the ways of my house, and not eating the bread of idleness is important, but I don't see anywhere in scripture telling me to have a perfect model home.

My home is bustling, it's busy, bread is baking (not always!!), food is stewing, baking, roasting, even dehydrating!
Laundry is whirling, piling, folding (not itself, hehehehe!).  The fire is glowing, the wood piling.  Children are reading, writing, painting, playing, bathing, laughing, crying, even sleeping!  There is lego everywhere :) Some days there are gardens being planted, babies being nursed and diapered, even haircuts going on.  There are birthdays, outings, co-ops, lesson planning, menu planning, shopping, even chicks hatching...phew!!

My house is busy and active.  Clean houses are generally empty...at least in the magazines!

Where there are no children, the house is clean, but there are many rewards from having the children in our homes.  It's hard to remember that on a day to day basis isn't it? I'm trying...that's my new year's resolution...to remember that.

Blessings,
Patricia

Very good post. It can be very easy to feel like we must keep up with all the perfect looking homes portrayed in magazines or blogs but first and foremost our house is a home! We must keep it neat and tidy but it does not always need to be ready to photograph. :)
